Dr. Robert Long, PT, DPT, MEd
Physical Therapist
Dr. Long joined Healing Motion Physical Therapy in February of 2025.
Bob has been a lifelong resident of Oregon, growing up in Roseburg. He worked in the timber industry for 8 years before deciding to pursue a career in physical therapy. His undergraduate wok was at Oregon State University, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in physical education and athletic training and a Masters of Education in Sports Medicine and Exercise Science. He attended Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO for a second bachelor’s degree in physical therapy with minors in theology and philosophy. In 2028, Bob received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Western University in Pomona, CA.
Bob returned to Oregon and joined a practice in Lincoln City where he practiced for 15 years as a staff therapist, before joining as a partner. Bob eventually left the practice, doing brief stints with Capital PT in Salem and see some private patients at Mary’s River Acupuncture in Philomath. Bob eventually joined Samaritan PT group and became manager of their program in 2010, the last 10 years at Lebanon Community Hospital.
Although Bob came into physical therapy via the athletic training avenue, Bob’s first attraction to physical therapy was working with persistent pain patients – this remains his passion. While at Lebanon Samaritan Hospital, he supervised and encouraged the development of the MMAPS program for persistent and chronic pain patients. He also noted the need for PT in primary care setting and worked with George Fox University to develop a pilot program for PT in primary care.
Bob takes a very eclectic treatment approach, utilizing skills from a multitude of manual therapy courses to address patient needs, most often implementing myofascial techniques in care plans. Besides persistent pain, Bob also enjoys working with cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine issues. Most recently Bob is pursuing certification from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and plans to incorporate this into his current treatment programs.
In Bob’s free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and grandchildren as well as fly fishing, camping, hiking and working on his property. Bob has more recently become interested in community projects that address environmental concerns. “I believe our purpose on earth is not only to serve, but to be stewards to our environment.”
